Dental prices in Paraguay: reference ranges and red flags

What a fair price looks like for consultation, second opinion, fillings, crowns, and implants. Reference values for Asunción 2026, with notes on what to watch for.

Pricing

Pricing in Paraguay is mostly opaque. Most clinics won't publish their prices. That asymmetry benefits the seller, not the patient. Here's a reference range for common procedures in Asunción in 2026, plus the red flags that suggest you're being overcharged.

Reference prices (Asunción, 2026)

These are reference ranges for established practices using quality materials. They are not the absolute floor — there are legitimate budget options, especially for simple procedures. But anything dramatically below these numbers is suspicious.

  • Initial consultation: Gs 250.000 - 450.000
  • Professional cleaning (prophylaxis): Gs 200.000 - 350.000
  • Composite filling (single surface): Gs 300.000 - 500.000
  • Root canal (single canal): Gs 600.000 - 1.000.000
  • Zirconia crown: Gs 1.500.000 - 2.200.000
  • Simple extraction: Gs 200.000 - 400.000
  • Wisdom tooth extraction (surgical): Gs 800.000 - 1.500.000
  • Implant placement (excluding crown): Gs 1.800.000 - 3.000.000
  • Implant crown: Gs 1.200.000 - 1.800.000
  • Teeth whitening (in-office): Gs 600.000 - 900.000
  • Porcelain veneer: Gs 1.200.000 - 1.800.000 per tooth

Red flags

A price significantly above these ranges isn't automatically a scam — premium practices with specialist training do charge more. But these signals suggest the price is inflated:

  • "We don't publish prices" — refuses to give you a number before the visit
  • "The price depends on what we find" — vague framing to lock you in
  • Pressure to commit the same day as the diagnosis
  • Large treatment plans proposed on a first visit with no second-opinion option offered
  • Bundled "packages" that include procedures you didn't ask about

Green flags

  • Published reference prices on the website or in the clinic
  • Written plan with each item priced separately
  • Willingness to explain the materials and the lab
  • Discussion of alternatives at different price points
  • No pressure to start immediately

What "cheap" usually means

If a price is dramatically below these ranges, one of three things is happening: the materials are budget (and won't last as long), the dentist is junior (and the work may need redoing), or the clinic is running a loss-leader to bring you in for upsell. None of those is good for you. Cheap dentistry is expensive in the long run.

If a price seems too good to be true, ask which materials are used and which lab fabricates the prosthetic. If the answer is vague, walk away.
